River Landing, site of North Carolina’s newest vineyard, receives its official blessing from the state chapter of The Brotherhood of the Knights of the Vine on April 26 as a cutting from the 400-year-old Mother Vine will be planted during a unique ceremony.

More than 300 people are expected to attend the Duplin County “Blessing of the Vines” ceremony, including River Landing developers Pete and Wendell Murphy, along with selected state and local politicians.

“This is only the second time our organization has ever performed such a ceremony,” said Ron Newcomb, Master Commander of the N.C. Brotherhood of the Knights of the Vine, based in Rose Hill. “Planting the oldest-known grapevine in the United States will be a neat and exciting time for everybody involved. We’ll bless the vine and talk about what it takes to grow a successful plant – soil from the earth, rain from the heavens.”
