Walking Trails:
Portofino has approximately seven miles of glorious walking trails that meander through the almost 400-acre property. They sometimes follow the two creeks as they wind their way to the Neuse River. The trails follow the course of the Neuse River, and there are benches along the way to stop and enjoy the scenery. The trails have a number of access points and many homesites have the trails behind them. You can walk, run, bike or even meet a group of horseback riders on the community trails, and they are also used frequently by residents in golf carts. There are all kinds of wildlife to be seen, from herons, hawks, beavers, wild turkeys, crayfish and deer, to even the rare sighting of a bald eagle!

Swimming Pool:
The pool at Portofino is a beach entry pool. In a magnificent setting next to the clubhouse with its Terra Cotta tiled roof and cobble stone courtyard, the pool is shaded by two giant live oak trees. The pool area has a delightful cabana with fans, electric hook ups and WiFi. There are also a number of loungers and umbrellas around the pool area, which features a sound system as well. Changing rooms with granite counter-tops, showers and an outdoor shower are close by.

Equestrian Center:
The state-of-the-art Equestrian Center at Portofino is one of the finest in the state. There are 22 stalls in a stunning heated barn made with magnificent Douglas Fir beams from California. Each horse has a fan, water, window and rubber floor. The center boasts hot/cold wash bays for the horses, tack room, office, reception area, showers and changing rooms. There’s also a two bedroom apartment above the barn with a balcony overlooking the stalls! The entire structure has a sprinkler system throughout. Two riding arenas, one dressage, a covered viewing stand, multiple paddocks with run-in sheds, an outdoor wash area, trailer parking and miles and miles of trails round out the facility’s features.

Clubhouse:
The Clubhouse at Portofino is a magnificent building of stucco and glass with a Terra Cotta tiled roof and beautiful wooden and glass doors imported from Germany. The clubhouse and piazza combine to make a place where the residents of Portofino can gather and relax. Residents can start a log fire outside, play pool, watch one of three TVs or read a book from the library. The clubhouse can also be used for meetings, club get-togethers, business meetings and Holiday parties. The clubhouse and piazza are also becoming very popular with brides who wish to rent out the facility.

Fishing pond and Kayaking on the Neuse River:
Portofino has a large pond stocked with many kinds of fish for catch and release. There is also a rowing boat with life vests for the more adventurous. The Neuse River is also fishable, with catfish, bass and shad, and there will be a kayak launch area on the river also.

Community Garden:
Portofino’s current residents are working on the community garden, which will be able to provide for locally-grown vegetables and flowers. They should have an endless supply of great fertilizer.
